David Iain Brown

DAVID IAIN BROWN

Currently residing in Glasgow, Scotland. David has a Master’s Degree in Fine Art from the Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen since 2018, Brown has exhibited internationally from France,  Dusseldorf and the USA.

Brown started as a print maker, depicting colorful illustrations of mundane objects from his surroundings within daily life, but gradually evolved to painting and developed a new language of abstraction. While experimenting with different textures, colors and shapes, the artist tries to lose control over the work, resulting in a unique outcome. Brown starts from one element and progresses freely with many layers and a variety of paint media, not only he adds materials to the canvas, in some areas Brown deconstructs his own work to give more space to the underlying structures. Every layer is as important since it leaves a trail of narrative through the creation process and adds more depth to the texture.

Brown continues to push the boundaries of his chosen materials, he recycles old paintings, found  materials and an assemblage of scrap pieces of collages together to create a chaotic but balanced aesthetic. More than ever is the artist guided by his immediate surroundings, the colors are an expression of his feelings while setting the mood to create an atmosphere. People are free to see and feel different about each work, depending on their experiences in life.
