Robert Indiana (1928–2018) was an American artist associated with the Pop Art movement. He is best known for his iconic and visually striking “LOVE” sculpture, which features the letters L and O stacked on top of the letters V and E in a square configuration. This artwork, created in 1965, became one of the most recognizable and widely reproduced images in the history of modern art. Indiana’s work often incorporated bold colors, simple geometric shapes, and a play on words, reflecting his interest in American popular culture and the power of language. Aside from “LOVE,” he explored themes such as numbers, symbols, and words in his paintings, sculptures, and prints, leaving a significant impact on the art world with his unique blend of conceptual ideas and visual appeal.
