If you follow the art world you’ll know that dealer extraordinaire, Marcel Katz a.k.a. The Art Plug is switching it up. An art dealer, fixer, agent and branding expert he showcases artists of all levels of notoriety. It all started only last year, when he created Marcel Katz Art, an art dealership and pop-up gallery, alongside the fine art publisher, Monsieur Marcel and hey presto The Art Plug was established; a brand and art agency that helps promote artists and push their work globally.

Impressively, he was the world’s youngest Salvador Dali dealer at 30 years old and has access to over 70 artists from the established, cue Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Takashi Murakami, Mr. Brainwash and Jeff Koons right through to the newcomers such as CB Hoyo and Paul Fauves.
And so, art lovers brace yourself as Katz is presenting The Art Plug Power House, a sensory playground that sees a mix of art and programmed experiences at Miami Art Basel 2018. In true Miami style, expect a party as he converts the historic 30,000 square foot police impound into an interactive contemporary art gallery. Here, 27 artists from around the world will come together to exhibit – expect a real mixing pot of mediums, styles and cultures. The conceptual platform, powered by High Hemp, features over 30 interactive works and installations designed to heighten the senses to a whole other level as Katz disrupts the traditional way consumers engage with art.

How did you get into the art world? I started off working in the nightlife world here in Miami. I started off as a promoter and worked my way up to the Creative Director position at Opium Group (Mansion, SET, Cameo, Mokai). It was there that I started fostering relationships with various artists and began working with them to create experiential art programming at the venues. My love of art grew from those experiences and I eventually left the nightlife world to pursue my passion for art. I almost immediately fell in love with the business and figured it out as I went. It was a foreign world to me but I hustled and started slowly building a collection and starting Marcel Katz Art, The Art Plug Agency along with my publishing company Monsieur Marcel. Now I’m launching my own art fair, The Art Plug Power House, during Miami Art Week 2018.
What do you love most about it? There are no rules. Art is limitless and timeless.
What’s your first memory of art? One of my first memories was doing graffiti art in France with my older brother 11 years ago when I was about 20 years old. At the time, he was working as a street art curator in Paris. We traveled to Normandy where he took me, my sister and my cousin to an abandoned building and we spent the day creating wall designs all throughout the space. I also remember my mother was an oil painter.
